COLUMBUS, Ohio -- On Saturday afternoon, the Capital University volleyball team was upended by Baldwin Wallace University in straight sets by a score of 3-0.
The Yellow Jackets (15-4, 1-1 OAC) took the sets by scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.
Prior to the first serve, Capital Athletics held a special ceremony for the Cetnarowski family. Last June, the Cetnarowski family unexpectedly lost their son, Tyler -- a 2017 Capital graduate and four-year baseball player -- and the athletics department and baseball program presented the family with Tyler's Capital jersey. Tyler was the older brother of current junior volleyball player
Regina Cetnarowski.
The Comets (3-8, 0-2) hung in each set with BW, but were ultimately undone by a slightly more efficient hitting percentage by the visitors. Both teams committed 17 attacking errors, but BW took advantage of their higher number of attacks to out-hit Capital by a margin of 40-32 kills.
Delanie Nahikian was once again heavily involved for Capital as she led the team in both kills and digs with 12 and 16 respectively. In the front row,
Sydney LaPointe and
Lindsay Rich each collected seven kills to help the Cap offense.
Erin O'Connell (15) and
Miranda Jordan (10) each reached double digit digs in the back row.
Jordyn Hoffman controlled the tempo of the Comet offense dishing out 25 assists. LaPointe and
Caleigh Hamby each had a solo block and combined on another to help out the Comet defense.
Miranda Jordan and
Alissa Holler each had a service ace.
Ivy Earl led the BW offense with 12 kills. Lauren Gardner paced the Yellow Jackets with 14 digs.
Capital returns to action on Wednesday, October 6th as Heidelberg will visit the Capital Center for another OAC match-up. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
