Braces From Kossoudji and Hess Lift Men’s Soccer to Rebound Win

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A pair of goals form both Jack Kossoudji and Devon Hess lifted the Capital University men's soccer team to a 4-0 win over visiting Marietta College on Wednesday evening.

The Comets (8-4, 3-1 OAC), dominated from the opening whistle grabbing the lead in just the fifth minute of play and comfortably holding on for the shutout victory. The win was Capital's seventh shutout win of the season.

The scoring got going early on Kossoudji's fifth tally of the season. Jarrett Puckett settled a long pass for Kossoudji. The latter took a few touches across the top of the box and dispatched a well struck shot to the middle of the goal past the unsuspecting Ryan Riccillo in the Marietta net.

Less than 20 minutes later, Capital doubled their lead through Kossoudji's second of the match. This time Kossoudji was on the end of a well worked counter attack by the Comets. First Jacob Taylor got a hold of the ball and sprung Jack Francisco down the right side. There, Francisco played provider and served a perfect ball across the face of goal where Kossoudji beat Riccillo for the second time in the match.

Later in the half, Capital kept it going. On just their third shot on target of the half, they found their third goal of the match. Veron Fongeh sent a ball across the field to freshman Devon Hess. Hess settled the ball and worked the Pioneer defender to slide a well struck shot to the back post for his first collegiate goal.

Hess doubled his tally and put the finishing touches off on a near flawless evening of Capital soccer in the 55th minute. Hess found nearly the same spot in the net, but this time took a feed from Francisco to score his second of his career and of the night. Francisco got a hold of the ball after Chase Geddis broke up a Marietta pass to win possession for the Comets.

The four goals came on just seven shots on target as Capital efficiently defeated the Pioneers with ease. Mariette took just seven shots on the night with three of them finding the frame. Connor Sexton got the start in net for Capital and stopped all three of those goal-bound attempts from the Pioneers. Kellen Sargent relieved Sexton in the 63rd minute to preserve the team's seventh shutout of the year.

On the other end of the field, Riccillo was credited with one save, while back-up keeper Joey Backhaus stopped two shots.

The Comets will aim to keep the re-found form as they travel to Alliance, Ohio this Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest against the Mount Union Purple Raiders.
