COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team (13-12, 9-9 OAC) played hard in their regular season finale but fell short, dropping the game 82-67 to Mount Union (22-3, 17-1 OAC). Prior to the game, the Crusaders lone senior, Ganiyu Yahaya or "G", was honored in the teams senior ceremony in his last game at the Capital Center.

TOUGH FIRST HALF

  • The opening salvo featured tough defenses from both teams with the first bucket falling two minutes into the half for Mount Union. Shortly after, senior Yahaya scored the first points for Capital at the 17:17 mark.
  • From that point on, the Purple Raiders started to string together runs that built a 34-7 lead at the halfway point of the first.
  • The Crusader defense started to make stops late in the half pulling within 17, going into the locker room with a 45-28 deficit.

SECOND LIFE

  • The second half began similar to the first, with tough defense preventing shots until Mount Union broke through, with Yahaya close behind with a long two.
  • The Crusaders got a little life from a Tyler Schreck dunk that forced a Purple Raiders timeout with 14 minutes to play but were unable to hold the opposing offense down for long.
  • A Reed Bradfield jumper with 3:54 to play cut the lead to 12 and that was as close as the Crusaders could get for the rest of the contest as the final horn blew in the 82-67 defeat.

KEY STATS

  • Sophomore Reed Bradfield scored 18 points to lead the Crusaders, also pulling down five rebounds and dishing three assists.
  • Yahaya dropped 15 points in his final go around in the Capital Center, tallying five steals and grabbing five rebounds.
  • Junior Cameron Caldwell also eclipsed the double digit mark, scoring 14 points versus the Purple Raiders.

UP NEXT
