THE ESSENTIALS

  • Capital broke out to a big lead in the first quarter and carried a 10-point advantage into the second stanza, 23-13. The Crusaders shot 10-for-17 (.588) from the field and held a plus-four rebounding edge over Wilmington in the opening quarter.
  • The Fightin' Quakers lived up to their name in the second quarter where they whittled into the lead and wound up trailing by just two points going into the locker room. Cap was held to just 5-of-15 (.333) shooting while Wilmington turned it up by shooting 7-of-10 (.700) plus 2-for-2 from 3-point range.
  • The Crusaders led by two going into halftime, 36-34, but regain its double-digit lead in the third after outscoring the Quakers, 16-7 in the frame.
  • All 16 third-quarter points came from Cap's starting five, including six from senior Cassidy Bosch.
  • Wilmington went cold from the field after hitting just three shots out of 16 attempts for an 18.8 percent success rate in the third quarter.
  • Wilmington came to within one possession of Cap with 3:35 remaining in the game when Brooke Davis hit a triple, but the Crusaders stayed true to its inside game to break away. Regan Stonerock responded with a layup on the other end and after swapping possessions Cassidy Bosch drove home the dagger to put away the game with a 3-pointer with under 90 seconds remaining.
  • Bosch's bucket was the last to fall and neither team scored in the final 1:27 of the game, leading Cap to a 64-57 victory.

THE AFTERMATH

  • Cassidy Bosch (Logan, Ohio / Logan) set a new career-high with 22 points on 9-of-15 (.600) shooting from the field. She added five rebounds, four assists and one steal to her statistical line.
  • Senior Regan Stonerock (Circleville, Ohio / Westfall) scored in double digits for the first time in six games behind an 18-point performance. She sank 8-of-9 field goal attempts and both free throws. After adding 12 rebounds, it served as her second double-double of the season.
  • McKayla Binkley (19) and Zahrya Bailey (10) paced the Quakers offense, accounting for 51 percent of its offense.

THE NEXT OPPONENT

Capital (13-11, 8-9 OAC) had one regular season game left to play and that will be against the University of Mount Union (14-10, 8-9 OAC) on Saturday, February 22. The game will be played at the MAAC in Alliance with major postseason implications on the line.

WHAT'S ON THE LINE

Capital is currently in a three-way tie for fourth place in the OAC standings with Mount Union and Marietta College (12-12, 8-9 OAC). All three will battle for the four seed, which grants that team a first-round home game in the opening round of the upcoming OAC Tournament (Feb. 22-29).

The Crusaders not only need to win but also need Marietta to lose to Heidelberg University on Saturday in order to garner the number four seed. Marietta defeated Capital in both meetings this season, so would hold the tiebreaker over the Crusaders should they remain with identical OAC records after Saturday's games. If Mount Union and Marietta both win, an extensive set of tiebreakers will be examined to see who earns the fourth and fifth seeds, while Capital would fall to sixth place.
