RICHMOND, Ind. – The Capital University volleyball team went across the border to Indiana for a match against Earlham College on Tuesday night. The Quakers defeated the Crusaders in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-19) to drop Cap to 2-3 on the year.
BREAKING AWAY
The Crusaders kept it close in the first until an 8-0 rally by the Quakers separated the two teams and put the hosts in control. That rally led to a 25-17 opening-set victory and early edge in the match.
Cap and Earlham battled all the way to the end of the second set. With the score 23-22 in favor of the Quakers, Caroline Mulvihill threw down a kill and a bad set on the Crusaders' side put the home team up 2-0.
Earlham took control of the third early and never looked back, outscoring CU 13-3 to prompt Capital's second timeout of the set. While Cap gained back some ground, the Quakers had more than enough cushion to win the third set, 25-19.
