COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University Volleyball team snapped a six-match losing streak with a straight-set victory over Ohio University - Chillicothe on Tuesday night. Braden Mast walked away having set a new career-best with eight kills to lead the Crusaders to its fifth win of the year.

DOMINANCE EARLY
- Capital rolled over the OUC Hilltoppers in the first set, 25-11, to set the tone for the rest of the match.
- Cap hit at a .316 clip (8-2-19) in the first set as opposed to OUC's .000 (8-8-26).
- Mast tallied three of her team-high eight kills in the first set, alone.
SUCCESS SUSTAINED
- Capital won the second and third sets by scores of 25-21 and 25-22, respectively.
- While Capital did not hit as well as it did in the first set, they still outhit the Hilltoppers .167 (13-7-36) to .000 (9-9-35) in the second frame.
- The Crusaders hit 13 kills for the second time in a set and hit .229 in the third, but was challenged by the Hilltoppers, who hit .250 (16-6-40).
- OUC took a late lead, 18-20, but two service errors and an attack error helped turn the tide and tie the game, 21-21. Cap then went on a 4-1 run to end the game fueled by a block from the duo of Mast and Caleigh Hamby, a tough dig that turned into a kill on the other side by Isabel Jimenez, and the match-clinch kill by Kirsten Jutte.
KEY CONTRIBUTORS
- Freshman Bradan Mast (London, Ohio / Madison Plains) tallied a career-high eight kills and added five digs plus two block assists. She was also a perfect 12-for-12 in service receptions.
- Senior Kirsten Jutte (Fort Recovery, Ohio/Fort Recovery) had six kills.
- Sophomore Emily Cooper (Hamersville, Ohio / Western Brown) took the majority of the reps as the team's setter and tallied nine assists in the win.
- Capital did not allow any service aces to the Hilltoppers (48-48) while collecting five on their side.
- Sophomore Erin O'Connell (Lyndhurst, Ohio / Gilmour Academy) continued her strong play with 10 digs and a perfect 20-for-20 on service receptions.
NEXT UP
Capital will open play at its own invitational tournament on Friday night when the Crusaders welcome the La Roche College Cardinals to The Capital Center. They will square off at 7 p.m. to open play and then resume on Saturday morning for two matches.
