Crusaders Break Out for Four Goals to Overcome Yellow Jackets

BEREA, Ohio –  The Capital University women's soccer team won its fifth game out of its last six matches following a comeback win over Baldwin Wallace University on the road, Saturday night. The Crusaders rolled out four unanswered goals, leading to their 4-1 win over the Yellow Jackets at George Finnie Stadium.

EARLY STING

  • Despite possession and shot counts favoring Capital in the first half, Baldwin Wallace earned the first score of the match when Anna Wenzinger posted an unassisted goal in the 40th minute of the game.
  • Capital held a 9-5 shot advantage in the first half, and BW goalkeeper Emma Bruno made seven saves to keep the Crusaders off the board heading into halftime.

1 … 2 … 3 … 4

  • Just five minutes into the start of the second half, Capital tied the game and scored the first of four unanswered goals.
  • The first came when Carlee Murry connected with Jordan Fike in the 50th minute, marking Murry's second goal of the season.
  • Fike entered the scoring column again when she scored her sixth goal of the season in the 72nd minute on an unassisted tally.
  • Maggie Peddicord put Cap up 3-1 less than one minute later, with the assist going to Cassidy Ryan.
  • Fike entered the scoring line for a third time, assisting on her second goal of the day in the 80th minute. Aaliyah Brletic benefited from the helper and scored her first collegiate goal with 15:05 remaining in the game, accounting for Cap's fourth goal.

MORE NUMBERS

  • Capital outshot Baldwin Wallace by a whopping margin of 14 over the course of the game (21-7).
  • The Crusaders also held the edge in corners taken, 8-4.
  • Jordan Fike finished with a four-point night behind two goals and an assist, and landed all four of her shots on frame to lead the team in both categories.
  • Kelly Bachmann and Laura White split time in goal. Bachmann worked the first 48:45 before being relieved by White in the 49th minute. White earned the win by entering the match prior to Cap's scoring run and made one save to help keep BW off the board in the second half.

COMING UP NEXT

Capital (8-3-0, 1-0-0 OAC) will play on the road in its next contest with an afternoon game at Heidelberg University (4-5-1, 0-1-0 OAC). The Crusaders and Student Princes will meet up at 4 p.m. at Hoernemann Stadium on Wednesday, October 9.
