Volleyball Falls to the Purple Raiders in Straight Sets

ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team was in action in Alliance, Ohio Saturday afternoon when it took on the Purple Raiders of the University Mount Union at The MAAC. The Crusaders lost in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-6, and 25-20.

Capital was unable to replicate its offensive success from the previous night and hit just .014 in the match. Sophomore Leighann Osborne had the most kills on Capital's side with six and was followed by Kirsten Jutte and Jessica Gavlak with four, each.

Gavlak was able to continue her success at the net by accumulating four more solo blocks as part of the team's six, however the Crusaders fell victim to 19 attack errors, four service errors, and nine reception errors.

Conversely, the Purple Raiders (20-3, 3-2 OAC) hit well as a team (.219) and defended the net successfully with eight total blocks, five of the solo variety. Mount Union did not have any player tally more than six kills but had had five players with four or more.

The Crusaders (0-21, 0-5 OAC) will bring their game back to The Capital Center on Tuesday, October 16 when they host Muskingum University. First service is set for 7 p.m.
