COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University's women's soccer team backed up a potent offensive attack with stingy defense on Wednesday evening against the Kenyon College Ladies.

Senior defender Monique Hanayik (Sidney, Ohio) and Claire Quinn (Coto de Caza, Calif.) got Capital's offense going early as the two teamed up to score the match's first goal. Quinn kicked the ball in play from the corner, which allowed Hanayik a window to take her shot. The assist was Quinn's third on the season.

Capital added to its lead before the half as freshman Jordan Fike (Powell, Ohio) out ran Kenyon's defense before feeding the ball to Caroline Hester (Milford, Ohio) from the right side. Kenyon's keeper dove in front of Hester's shot but was unable to get enough of the ball to keep it from finding its mark.

The Purple and White kept its foot on the gas in the second half, continuing its aggressive play. The game was put out of reach on a Capital possession in which a flurry of action took place in front of Kenyon's goalie, Jillian Countey. Countey saved a shot attempt by Becca Cartmill (Temecula, Calif.) but the saved sent the ball into the foot of Amanda Kachaylo (Moon Township, Pa.) who found the net for the final score of the match.

Capital's defense held the Ladies to just five shot attempts while its offense fired off 19, 10 on goal.

Cartmill tallied a game-leading four shots while Hester, Fike and Kachaylo tallied two apiece.

Hannah Klotzsche (Avon, Ohio) defended Capital's goal for the entire match, making a trio of saves.

With the win, the Crusaders improve to 2-4 and are set to travel to Hanover College on Saturday, Sept. 24. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
