Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team dropped an 80-56 decision to No. 7 Marietta College on Wednesday night at the Ban Johnson Arena.
The Crusaders fell to 4-10 (2-5 OAC) on the season while the Pioneers remain atop the Ohio Athletic Conference standings with a 14-0 (7-0 OAC) record.
The Crusaders' only lead came two minutes into the game as senior forward Andrew Bolka (Xenia, Ohio) made his first field goal to put Capital on top by two. Capital went the next three minutes without scoring a point, falling into an early deficit of 9-2. The Pioneers then went on a 14-4 run that was started when Luis Garcia hit a three-point jumper. Marietta continued the assault, taking a 37-21 lead into the half.
The Crusaders opened the second half scoring with a jump shot from Ben Danhoff (Clyde, Ohio) and a three-point shot from AJ Dixon (Hilliard, Ohio) to pull within 11. Marietta responded with a 12-0 run of its own to put the game out of reach for good. Garcia was responsible for a large part of the run with a pair of free throws and two three-balls.
Three Crusaders put up double-digit scoring totals as Bolka led the way with 19. Drew Fecko (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) and Dixon chipped in with 13 and 11, respectively.
Capital's lone advantage came in rebounds (39-36). Marietta's largest advantage was held in field goal percentage as it shot .534 compared to Capital's .328.
The Crusaders return to action when they face Heidelberg University at home on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m.
