Box Score BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start, dropping a 78-63 decision to conference opponent Baldwin Wallace University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The loss puts the Crusaders in fifth place in the Ohio Athletic Conference standings, while the Yellow Jackets maintain its hold on fourth place.
Baldwin Wallace (10-3 overall, 4-2 OAC) jumped out to a 17-9 first half lead, thanks to a pair of three balls from Jaron Crow (Mentor, Ohio) and Zach Warner (Clyde, Ohio). The three-point shots jumpstarted an 11-4 run that extended the lead to 28-13 with 5:27 left in the half.
Capital (4-9, 2-4) opened the second half on a 10-2 run. During the run, the Crusaders made four straight shots from the charity stripe. Adam Blake (Kingston, Ohio) converted on a pair of free throws stemming from a technical foul and Andrew Bolka (Xenia, Ohio) hit both of his free throws to cut the lead to eight points at 43-35
The Yellow Jackets answered with a 10-0 run that put the game out of reach for good at 53-35.
The Crusaders struggled in the paint allowing a 40-26 advantage while also losing the turnover battle 14-7.
Capital was led by junior guard Charles English (Cincinnati, Ohio), who scored in double digits for the ninth time this season with 12 points. Two other Crusaders scored in the double digits as Blake and Drew Fecko (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) scored 10 points apiece.
Baldwin Wallace was led by freshman guard Cameron Kuhn (Vermilion, Ohio), who had a game-high 17 points.
Capital returns to action as they hit the road to take on Marietta on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 7:30 p.m.
