Crusaders Downed by Division I Opponent Miami (OH)

OXFORD, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team fell behind early but played a competitive second half with NCAA Division I opponent, the University of Miami on Monday night. The Crusaders dropped a 69-46 decision at Millett Hall in Oxford, Ohio despite AJ Dixon's team-leading 17 points in their last nonconference game of the year.


Miami (4-8) outscored the Crusaders 39-20 in the first half and used a 9-0 run early to create its first bit of separation. Capital (4-7) fought back to within five points of the Redhawks before they used a 20-1 run to end the half.

Dixon (Hilliard, Ohio/Bradley) scored a team-high 17 points, and all came in as part of a second half that the Crusaders proved most competitive. The junior broke out of the half with a three-point make, one of his four in the half, He went on to score Capital's first 12 points of the half behind 4-of-5 shooting and a trio of treys in the first six minutes of the frame.

Capital stayed close with the Redhawks in the second half after being outscored by just four points, 30-26.

Miami powered its way inside and scored 42 of its 69 points in the paint, leading to a 51.9 percent field goal shooting percentage. Conversely, Capital shot just 31.2 percent from the field.

Adding to Capital's scoring was Daniel Ocke (Sidney, Ohio) who posted 13 points off of the bench on 5-of-8 shooting. Three of his field goals came from behind the arc.

Capital will break in its schedule until Jan. 7 when it hosts rival Otterbein University inside the Capital Center at 7 p.m.
