Offense Comes Alive in Win at Ohio Northern

Box Score
ADA, Ohio – The odds to make a basket were better than 50-50 for the Capital University men's basketball team, as they acquired their second conference win against Ohio Northern University on Saturday afternoon behind a strong shooting effort. The Crusaders shot better than 50 percent from the field in their 75-59 road victory at the ONU Sports Center.

Capital (4-5 overall, 2-1 OAC) had standout performances from three unlikely sources, all coming off of the bench. Sophomore guard Drew Fecko (Sagamore Hills, Ohio) scored his first points of the season and set a new career high with 11 points off of the bench. His previous career high was nine points set last season. Fecko helped balloon the Crusaders' first-half lead into double digits by hitting one of his two three-pointers on the day before the Polar Bears responded with one of their own to make for a 35-28 halftime score.

Ohio Northern (5-3, 1-3) came out of the half on a 12-0 run to retake the lead, 40-37. Capital's bench play got the team back on top with buckets from Daniel Ocke (Sidney, Ohio), Josh Pollner (Powell, Ohio/Olentangy), Tyrel Jackson (Dublin, Ohio/Coffman) and Adam Blake (Kingston, Ohio). After Ocke tied the game at 44-44, Blake struck from deep to regain the lead.

From there, Capital went on a 15-0 run with all of its points during that outburst coming from its non-starters. Fecko continued to roll with six straight points as the second half waned on to help the Crusaders grow its lead to 16. Their lead topped at 18 points as the Crusaders went onward to victory.

Joining Fecko among the Crusaders' top scorers were seniors Ocke and Blake, each scoring 10 points. Blake shot 4-for-5 from the field and hit both of his attempted three-point shots to bulk Capital's shooting percentage to 55.3 percent for the game. Both set new season high point totals.

Defensively, Capital clamped down the perimeter and held ONU to just 3-for-18 (.167) shooting from behind the arc.

The Crusaders were able to get the three-ball working after hitting 7-of-17 attempts. That set a new team season high in three-point shooting percentage (.412) and tied a season-high mark for total makes.

Capital will close out the 2014 portion of its schedule with two road games, the next at Mount Union on Tuesday, Dec. 16. Tipoff between the Crusaders and Purple Raiders is set for 7:30 p.m.
