The Capital University volleyball team played a pair of three-set matches Saturday, sweeping Medaille (N.Y.) before falling against host Case Western Reserve to close out the Marcia French Memorial Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio.
The Crusaders (4-5) knocked off Medaille 25-22, 25-11, 25-21 before falling 25-22, 25-12, 25-19 against Case.
Following the conclusion of play, sophomore setter Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) was named to the All-Tournament team.
Against the Mavericks (0-4), Capital hit nearly .500 in the opening two sets before taking a tightly-contested third frame.
Sophomore middle hitter Olivia Arledge (Chillicothe, Ohio) led the Crusaders' offense with 14 kills. Weilbacher contributed with 23 assists and three aces, while sophomore Becca DeWitt (Springfield, Ohio) tallied four aces. Freshman middle hitter Kristin Bender (Fremont, Ohio) added six kills and two blocks.
Sophomore Natalie Briggs (Pataskala, Ohio) paced the defense with 11 digs.
Freshman outside hitter Courtney McCracken (Newark, Ohio) led the offense in the match against Case (4-4) with eight kills. Arledge posted seven kills.
McCracken and Briggs each registered eight digs to lead the defense.
Capital resumes play Wednesday at Ohio Wesleyan. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
