The Capital University volleyball team won its fifth match in its last six Wednesday, downing Oberlin 25-17, 26-28, 25-19, 25-11 in a non-conference affair in Oberlin, Ohio.
Five players finished with six or more kills in the match for the Crusaders (9-6 overall), who also won for the third consecutive match.
Capital also showcased a balanced defensive attack as five players finished with 10 or more digs.
Freshman outside hitter Courtney McCracken (Newark, Ohio) tallied seven kills and 11 digs, while freshman middle hitter Kristin Bender (Fremont, Ohio) posted eight kills and five blocks.
Freshman middle hitter Hanna Ewart (Wichita, Kan.) totaled a team-best nine kills, while junior defensive specialist Kelly Leonard (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore setter Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) paced the defense with 12 digs. Weilbacher also contributed with a team-high 23 assists.
Junior setter Marissa Price (Tiffin, Ohio) registered 13 assists, four service aces and 11 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Natalie Briggs (Pataskala, Ohio) added 10 digs, and freshman middle hitter Mona Ratliff (South Charleston, Ohio) recorded eight kills and three blocks.
Sophomore middle hitter Olivia Arledge (Chillicothe, Ohio) had six kills and three blocks, while junior outside hitter LeAnna Cotton (Okeechobee, Fla.) knocked kills on all four of her attacks.
Capital returns to play this Friday and Saturday in the Ohio Athletic Conference-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Crossover at the Capital Center. On Friday, the Crusaders take on Mount St. Joseph at 2 p.m. before hosting Bluffton at 6 p.m.
