The Capital University volleyball team posted a pair of three-set victories Saturday to finish the two-day Manchester Pizza Hut Invitational with a 3-1 record.
The Crusaders (8-6 overall) bested Earlham (Ind.) 25-7, 25-15, 25-9 before knocking off Manchester 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 in their tournament finale. Junior defensive specialist Kelly Leonard (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named to the All-Tournament team following the conclusion of play.
Against Earlham (3-8), the Crusaders recorded 11 service aces as a team and committed just seven attack errors. Sophomore middle hitter Olivia Arledge (Chillicothe, Ohio) paced the offense with seven kills, while freshmen Courtney McCracken (Newark, Ohio) and Hanna Ewart (Wichita, Kan.) added six apiece.
Sophomore setter Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) posted team highs of 16 assists and six service aces. Junior defensive specialist Kelly Leonard (Cincinnati, Ohio) led Capital with 12 digs, while freshman middle hitter Jamie Beyer (Rushville, Ohio) recorded three blocks.
Junior Marissa Price (Tiffin, Ohio) contributed with eight assists, five digs and two aces.
In the match against host Manchester (1-8), McCracken and Ewart combined for 17 kills to lead the Crusaders' offense, while Arledge tallied six. Weilbacher registered five kills, 17 assists and 11 digs.
Leonard paced the defense with 20 digs, while McCracken added 11.
The Crusaders return to action this Wednesday at Oberlin. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Oberlin, Ohio.
