COLUMBUS – The Capital University volleyball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its schedule Tuesday with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-21 victory over Ohio Christian at the Capital Center.
The Crusaders (12-9) hit .370 as a team in the third set and .239 for the match, while the Trailblazers (15-8) were held to .018 for the contest.
Freshman outside hitter Hanna Ewart (Wichita, Kan.) paced the Capital offense with 10 kills and a .474 hitting percentage. Sophomore right side hitter Olivia Arledge (Chillicothe, Ohio) totaled eight kills, while freshman middle hitter Mona Ratliff (South Charleston, Ohio) registered a team-high four blocks.
Sophomore setter Katie Weilbacher (Grove City, Ohio) recorded 19 assists, four digs and two service aces, while junior Marissa Price (Tiffin, Ohio) added 15 assists and seven digs.
Sophomore libero Natalie Briggs (Pataskala, Ohio) led the defense with 13 digs.
The Crusaders jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first set and didn't look back. Ohio Christian leveled the second set at 11-11 before making a 6-1 run on the serve of sophomore defensive specialist Becca DeWitt (Springfield, Ohio).
In the third, the Trailblazers held a 14-12 advantage before a run on Price's serve put Capital back in the lead for good.
The Crusaders resume Ohio Athletic Conference play for good this Saturday at John Carroll. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. in University Heights, Ohio.
