COLUMBUS – The Capital University women's basketball team saw a double-digit lead disappear in the second half but was reenergized in overtime Wednesday, defeating Muskingum 70-64 in an Ohio Athletic Conference affair at the Capital Center.

After the Muskies (6-8 overall, 1-6 OAC) forced overtime with a furious rally in the last six minutes, the Crusaders sped to a 6-0 in the opening minute of the extra period and didn't look back, knocking down 8-of-10 free throws in the final 2:23 to ice the victory.

Senior forward Stacy Timmerman (New Bremen, Ohio; at right) led Capital with 19 points, seven rebounds and three steals, while junior guard Cookie Geroski (Fostoria, Ohio) totaled 16 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and seven boards.

The Crusaders (10-4, 5-2) led 54-43 with just under six minutes to play in the contest before the Muskies stormed back to within three points with 2:47 on the clock.

After a clutch jumper by Timmerman made it a five-point game, Muskingum grabbed an offensive rebound and knocked down a 3-pointer to cut it to 56-54 with 54 seconds left. Following a Capital turnover, the Muskies knocked down a pair of free throws at the other end to force overtime.

For the game, the Crusaders shot just 34.8 percent from the field but knocked down 19-of-27 from the free throw line. Capital held Muskingum to 36.1 percent from the floor and forced 22 turnovers.

The Crusaders led 31-28 at the half after running to a 14-4 advantage to start the contest.

Junior forward Jamie Caton (Hilliard, Ohio) contributed with eight points and six rebounds before fouling out late in regulation. A total of six players grabbed five or more rebounds in the game.

Capital continues conference play this Saturday against first-place and ninth-ranked Ohio Northern. Tip-off at the Capital Center is set for 3 p.m.
