The Capital University women's soccer took full advantage of its opportunities Sunday in a 3-1 victory at Allegheny in a non-conference affair at Meadville, Pa.

Despite being outshot 14-5 in the contest, the Crusaders (5-3 overall) won their third consecutive match and have outscored their opponents 13-1 during that stretch. It was the most goals Allegheny, which entered last week ranked No. 5 in the Great Lakes Region, has surrendered in one match since 2009.

"We're very excited to come away with a win against a regionally-ranked team on the road," Capital coach Chris Kouns said. "We played good possession soccer and created scoring opportunities, a majority of which came off quick transition and good defending, Lauren Roy action shot which are things we've been working on."

Junior Lauren Roy (Toledo, Ohio; at right), freshman Kim Hoerauf (Worthington, Ohio) and senior Alexa Bosanac (Strongsville, Ohio) each tallied goals for Capital.

Roy, a defender, tallied her first goal of the season in the 39th minute. The unassisted score proved to hold up as the game-winner, as Hoerauf found the back of the net just over a minute later, taking advantage of a goalkeeper turnover.

Bosanac added a penalty kick in the 59th minute to give Capital an insurance goal.

"We feel like we might be getting to a good place where we're going to do the things we need to do to be successful in the Ohio Athletic Conference," Kouns said. "Across the board, everybody played well, and it was a great, well-deserved team win."

The Gators (4-3) got on the board in the 89th minute with a late goal, preventing the Crusaders from posting their third straight shutout.

Junior goalkeeper Maggie Donnellan (Cincinnati, Ohio) registered eight saves for her third win of the year.

Last season, the Crusaders tied the Allegheny, which shared the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference regular season title, in a match at Bernlohr Stadium.

Capital returns home Saturday for a match against Case Western Reserve. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
