The Capital University football team suffered a heartbreaking defeat in its second-to-last contest of the 2012 campaign Saturday, falling 13-6 in overtime at Muskingum in an Ohio Athletic Conference showdown in New Concord, Ohio.

The setback was the Crusaders' first against Muskingum since 2000. Capital (1-8 overall, 1-7 OAC) had won the last 11 meetings between the two teams entering play Saturday.

The Muskies (2-7, 2-6) had a chance to take the lead with 43 seconds to play in regulation and the score tied at 6-6, but Greg Fox's 47-yard field goal try missed wide left and short.

Muskingum took the ball to start the extra period at the Crusaders' 25-yard line per NCAA overtime rules. The Muskies marched down the field in four plays to take a 7-point advantage. It was the first touchdown allowed by the Capital defense in seven quarters.

Needing a touchdown and an extra point to extend the contest, the Crusaders fumbled on the second play of the drive and Muskingum recovered to end the game.

Capital forced five turnovers, totaled seven sacks and held the Muskies' offense to just 250 total yards. Senior linebacker Tyler Dugan's interception with 9:17 to play in the fourth quarter allowed the Crusaders to tie the game at 6-6 on a 27-yard field goal by sophomore kicker Travis Bosanac (Strongsville, Ohio), his second field goal of the game in three attempts.

Sophomore linebacker Matt Tash (Painesville, Ohio) continued his strong play with a team-high 13 tackles, including three sacks, and an interception. Senior defensive lineman Nate Nasrallah (Norton, Ohio) contributed with eight tackles, three sacks and a forced fumble, Alex Coleman action 2012 while freshman defensive back Zach Green (Groveport, Ohio) added five tackles and a pick.

Offensively, freshman quarterback Ryan McSweeney (Seven Hills, Ohio) threw for 154 yards and a pair of interceptions, including one returned for a touchdown. Freshman running back Bo Hardy (Galloway, Ohio) posted 78 yards on 22 carries, and junior wide receiver Alex Coleman (Columbus, Ohio; at right) registered six receptions for 98 yards.

Capital, which was stung by 12 penalties for 114 yards, got on the board first as Bosanac booted a 21-yard field goal with 15 seconds to play in the first half.

After a third quarter marred by three turnovers by the two teams combined, McSweeney was picked off by Muskingum's Andrew Davis, who returned it 26 yards for a score to give the Muskies a 6-3 advantage. The Crusaders punted on the ensuing possession, but Dugan's third interception of the year on the next Muskingum drive set up Bosanac's game-tying kick.

Capital concludes the season next Saturday at Wilmington. Kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. in Wilmington, Ohio.
