COLUMBUS – The Capital University football team got off to a slow start and was unable to recover Saturday, suffering a 45-10 setback against Heidelberg in an Ohio Athletic Conference contest at Bernlohr Stadium.
The Crusaders (1-4 overall, 1-3 OAC) surrendered 601 yards of total offense as the Student Princes held a commanding 31-14 advantage in first downs.
Heidelberg (5-0, 4-0), which received votes in the most recent D3football.com Top 25 Poll, jumped out to leads of 21-0 through one quarter and 31-0 through the first 29 minutes of action.
Spurred by a 73-yard kickoff return by junior wide receiver Alex Coleman (Columbus, Ohio), Capital found the end zone with 22 seconds to play in the first half on a 5-yard run by junior quarterback Ryan Kremchek (Sylvania, Ohio).
Junior kicker Travis Bosanac (Strongsville, Ohio) added a 36-yard field goal with 6:33 to play in the third quarter to round out Capital scoring.
Coleman led the offense with five receptions for 65 yards and submitted 139 all-purpose yards. Kremchek completed 12-of-27 passes for 116 yards. Freshman running back Bo Hardy (Galloway, Ohio), who entered the weekend ranked second in the OAC in rushing, was held to 32 yards.

Senior defensive lineman Aaron Knisley (Bexley, Ohio) and senior defensive back Ryan Neuberger (Milan, Ohio) added 10 tackles, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery each for Capital.
Several festivities surrounded Saturday's game on Homecoming Saturday at Capital. The 1987 OAC football championship team, the lone squad to win the league title in program history, was recognized prior to kickoff on its 25th anniversary.
In addition, the Capital University Chordsmen performed a rendition of the CU Alma Mater, while the Homecoming court was announced at half time.
The Crusaders look to get back on track in league play next Saturday at national No. 1 and perennial power Mount Union. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in Alliance, Ohio.
