Katie Chase

Kathleen (Katie) Chase is a three-year assistant coach for Capital University’s women’s lacrosse team.

The 2018 Crusaders set a new program record with 14 wins to only three losses and went 6-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Capital won seven games in a row to start the season, the best start in team history. The Crusaders finished with the third-most goals in the OAC (286) and allowed the second-fewest (121). Capital finished 11th in the country in goals per game with 16.82 and allowed the 12th-fewest goals in Division III.

In 2017, Chase helped Capital to an 11-4 season, while going 6-2 in OAC action. Over the course of the season, Cap registered a seven-game winning streak. The Crusaders ended the season with three consecutive wins before entering conference tournament. The Crusaders finished the year ranked 14th in Division III for scoring defense (6.53), 26th for caused turnovers per contest (12.13), and 17th in free position percentage (.500).

In 2016, Chase helped Capital to a historic season in which the team made their first appearance in the Ohio Athletic Conference championship match. A few days prior, the Crusaders hosted a postseason match on its home turf for the first time in its young history, in which Capital defeated John Carroll University, 14-8. Following the conference tournament, Kara Hines was named OAC Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in her career. The Crusaders finished the season ranked 24th in scoring defense (7.0 gpg) and 30th in scoring margin (5.14).

Playing collegiately at The Ohio State University, Chase enjoyed a successful career as a primary attacker. After elevating into a starting role as a sophomore, Chase went on to score more than 160 goals over the course of her career, twice ranking in the top-3 in ALC scoring.

In 2015, the Buckeyes finished 13-8 overall, advanced to the Big Ten finals and was an at-large selection for the NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Tournament. Following the season, Chase was named to the All-Big Ten Team and to the all-tournament team as a senior as well as being tabbed a finalist for the Big Ten Medal of Honor.

Over her career, she scored 162 goals and 19 assists for a total of 181 points. She controlled a grand total of 221 draws in 66 games played. Chase was twice named an IWLCA All-West Region honoree, three-time All-ALC selection and has a host of academic honors from Ohio State. Chase graduated as the Buckeyes’ record-holder for career draw controls and single-season goals (59).

Chase has an extensive history in volunteering in the Columbus community including work at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation, the Second and Seven Foundation, and served as a volunteer assistant coach for a summer girl’s lacrosse team. She also served as an intern at Special Olympics Ohio and earlier interned at the LifeSport Summer camp where she educated boys and girls on the basic skills of lacrosse.

Chase graduated with two degrees from Ohio State in May 2015 earning both a Bachelor of Arts in Sport and Leisure Studies, and a Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Sciences.
