Capital University graduate, Mitchell Hughes is returning to his alma mater in the 2022-23 academic year as an assistant coach. This will be Hughes' first collegiate coaching position.Â
Hughes played for three seasons in Bernlohr Stadium and was a three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference second team honoree and a two-time Academic All-Conference selection. Hughes ended his senior season prematurely due to an injury, but made his mark on the field and in the classroom. At season's end, Mitchell was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Second Team. As a midfielder, Hughes finished his tenure with eight goals and five assists.Â
Prior to Capital, Hughes transferred Bowling Green State University where he competed in his first year of college soccer. He graduated from Capital in May of 2022 with a degree in Biology on a pre-medicine track.Â
Since his playing career concluded, Hughes has begun to cut his teeth in the coaching world as an assistant academy coach with Ohio Premier UA and as an assistant coach with Ohio Premier's OVPL U23 team.Â
Hughes is originally a native of Clintonville, Ohio where he attended Whetstone High School.Â
