Get to Know Coach Lynch
Wes Lynch enters his fifth season on the Capital staff. He spent the first four years as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. Prior to the 2020 season, he has been elevated to assistant head coach and defensive coordinator for Crusaders Football.
Lynch’s influence has already been felt on the Capital defense with a reduction in rushing yards allowed per game by nearly 30 while witnessing multiple increases in other statistical categories following his first year. In 2016, Capital’s defense recorded 10 more sacks than the previous year, induced 13 more interceptions, nine more forced fumbles and six more fumble recoveries.
After the 2016 season ended, two Capital defensive players earned all-conference honorable mention nods for the first time in their careers including linebacker Derek Eibon. Eibon finished inside the conference's top-5 with 81 total stops, one sack, two tackles for loss, and two fumble recoveries. In 2017, defensive back LaShaun Sanders Jr. earned honorable mention honors for the first time in his career and in each of his three seasons at least one member of the Capital defense was named all-conference.
After graduating from St. Olaf, he coached running backs at Augustana College as a graduate assistant. Lynch guided Augustana's running back to a 1,000-yard season and all-conference honors. Lynch then became a member of Hamline University's staff, where he coached wide receivers and had recruiting duties under current Capital head coach, Chad Rogosheske. In his first year at Hamline, Lynch helped increase the team’s receiving productivity by nearly 75 percent.
Lynch, a standout middle linebacker at St. Olaf College (Minn.), put together a decorated career as an Ole. In 2011, he led the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in solo tackles (97) on his way to being named All-MIAC.
Lynch holds a bachelor’s degree in exercise science from St. Olaf (2012) and a master’s degree in sport administration and leadership from Augustana (2014).
