BIO
Kellogg’s most recent stop was at Florida State University, where he served as an assistant coach with the women’s cross country and track & field program over the past year. He also aided the men’s mid-distance group at FSU. Notably, Kellogg helped coach Alyson Churchill to an All-American finish at the 2023 cross country National Championships.

On the recruiting trail at Florida State, Kellogg was instrumental in bringing in a high quality 2024 signing class that included four high school state champions and one NCAA qualifier from the transfer portal.

Prior to FSU, Kellogg was an assistant coach at Ohio University from summer of 2020 to fall of 2023. With the Bobcats, Kellogg worked closely with both the men’s and women’s programs, notably assisting the women’s program to a 2022 conference runner-up finish, the program’s highest finish in 15 years. That same season, the Bobcat women were a top-10 program in the region led by the top true freshman in the region.

Additionally, Kellogg assisted in the mentorship of 2020 MAC champion and National Qualifier Josh Park on the men’s side. His student-athletes at OU also set school records in seven events, while an additional 12 student-athletes posted top-10 all-time marks.

Before heading to OU, Kellogg got his start in coaching as the graduate assistant cross country coach at Purdue University Northwest. There, Kellogg helped the program set school records in both the men’s 8K and the women’s 6K races.

Kellogg comes to Capital with strong ties to the OAC as he completed his undergraduate degree from Otterbein University in 2019. While with the Cardinals, Kellogg was an elite runner, qualifying for the National Championships four times – twice in cross country, once in the 3K steeplechase and once in the Distance Medley Relay. His anchor leg of the DMR helped his squad to an eighth place finish and All-American honors at the Indoor Championships. During the fall of 2018, Kellogg helped lead his team to the OAC Cross Country title – the program’s first since 2004. As a student-athlete, Kellogg earned numerous Academic All-American honors while also serving as a three-time team captain.

Kellogg holds his Bachelor’s Degree from Otterbein in English Literature and Communications while he also holds a Master’s Degree in Sport Science and Recreation from Ohio University.

Ian Kellogg on the opportunity to lead the Comets: "I'd like to thank Dr. Bailey and the search committee for believing in my vision for Capital cross country and track & field, and providing me the opportunity to lead the program. As a Bexley native and an OAC graduate, I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to return home and build something special. I've always believed that Capital is a sleeping giant amongst its Division III contemporaries, and I'm looking forward to the challenge of establishing a championship program both at the conference and national level."
