WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University cross country teams made a statement in their season-opening race on Tuesday night as the men won the Quaker Opener and the women placed second overall. Both races were shortened to two mile races due to the heat.
Capital's men collected 19 team points to win the men's race, while the women scored 43 points to take second in the women's race.
MEN
Kolin Brake led Capital by placing third overall in 10:07.30 and he was followed closely by teammates
Mikey Arnone and
Ryin Fisher who took fourth and fifth, respectively. Arnone clocked in at 10:09.70, followed by Fisher's 10:13.10.
Capital had four others in the top-11 as
Aidan Fisher placed eighth (10:28.90),
Braydon Nix was ninth (10:29.10),
Justin Rona was 10th in 10:30.30 and
Ridwan Aliawl was 11th in 10:31.0.
Later down the line, Capital had finishes of 17th by
Ean Berberich (10:44.40),
Hayden Quinif in 19th (10:51.40),
Aiden Mahony in 21st (10:56.20),
Dimetrius Floyd in 23rd (11:03.40),
Jordan Hull in 29th (11:09.80)
Logan Belanger in 34th (11:26.20),
Alex Ortiz-Laus in 38th (11:50.40),
Aaron McNutt in 42nd (12:04.20) and
Aiden Smith in 51st (12:54.10).
The men claimed a convincing win by scoring 19 team points.
WOMEN
Freshman
Lillith Dreibelbis led the Comets with a second overall finish in the women's race, clocking in a time of 12:29.9 in her first collegiate run. Fellow freshman
Lily Carpico was next for Cap, placing fifth in a time of 12:42.10.
Returning sophomore
Laney Tarr was next for Cap, placing ninth in 12:48.10.
The next contingent of Comets came across the line in tight order as
Shelby Janes took 13th (13:14.50), followed by
Alex Wilkinson in 14th (13:24.50),
Hollyn Reed in 15th (13:28.10),
Sara Kottmyer in 16th (13:35.30),
Lauren Wynk in 18th (13:43.10) and
Camryn Baker in 20th (13:55.50).
The final two to finish for Capital were
Hadley Fullen in 23rd (13:59.80) and
Olivia Ellis in 27th (14:23.20).
As a team, Capital finished second with 43 team points.

Capital will next take to the course on Friday, September 11th as they take part in the Michigan State Spartan Invitational. The race will be a preview for the Great Lakes Regional Championships later this fall.
