Women’s Lacrosse Drops Home Opener to Transylvania

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team overcame a halftime deficit in the third quarter, but ultimately fell behind in a 12-10 home opening loss to Transylvania on Wednesday night.

The Comets fall to 1-2 overall while Transy evens their record at 2-2.

The game got underway early as the Comets scored on their first possession just 30 seconds into the game. Sydney Norch – playing in memory of her mother Jennifer who passed away nearly one year ago to the day from cancer – scored the game's first goal.

From there, Transy got back-to-back goals from Avery Kirkhope to make it 2-1.

Norch would tie the game up at the 5:43 mark with a woman-up goal. A free position goal by Ava Vendetti just before the end of the quarter gave the Comets a 3-2 lead.

The second quarter was all Transy as the Pioneers scored four times to Capital's one to take a 6-4 lead into the break. Leah Leno got the only goal in the period for Cap.

In the third quarter, Capital got back in front thanks to goals by Norch, Vendetti, Leno and Grace Wolfe

Transylvania quickly evened the score in the fourth and utilized one Capital penalty to make it a 10-8 score.

Leah Leno and Sydney Norch scored late, but the goals were only consolation as Transy escaped with the 12-10 win.
