Women’s Lacrosse Wins First of the Year

ALMA, Mich. – The Capital University women's lacrosse team earned their first win of the 2026 season via a 12-6 scoreline at Alma College on Saturday afternoon. 

The Comets even their record at 1-1 overall, while Alma is now 0-1. 

Capital blitzed the Scots for a 5-0 lead after the first quarter to all but seal the deal in the end. After the second quarter, the Comets added two more to go ahead 7-1 by halftime to extend their advantage. 

In the third quarter, Alma scored four, but Capital answered with three of their own to increase their lead to 10-5. In the fourth, Capital again added two more to Alma's one to officially seal the deal at 12-6. 

Ava Vendetti once again led the Comets' offense as she finished with six points on five goals and one assist. She also added six draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover. 

Mia Cruz had a career-day, finishing with four points on three goals and one assist. She also added one ground ball and one caused turnover. 

Leah Leno had a three-point game, thanks to two goals and one assist. She also chipped in a ground ball and caused a turnover. 

Heather Stoner and Sienna Pinson also added one goal each, with Pinson's goal marking the first of her collegiate career. Stoner added a team-best five ground balls to go with one draw control and one caused turnover. Pinson also contributed a caused turnover. 

Grace Wolfe and Sydney Norch added one assist each. Wolfe added in two GBs, three CTs and two DCs. Norch chipped in three ground balls as well. 

Freshman Kadyn Hyer ended with two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Faith Hutchison added a ground ball as well. 

Brooke Burchfield played the full game in goal, finishing with seven saves and two ground balls. 

UP NEXT
Capital will come home to Bernlohr Stadium for their next game as they host Transylvania University on Wednesday, February 25th. First draw is slated for 5 p.m.
