COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team settled for a 1-1 draw with Chatham University on Saturday evening in their first home game since August. The tie was the first for both teams this season as Capital is now 1-3-1 overall and Chatham is 2-5-1 on the year.
The first half went by without a lot of scoring chances, but the best opportunity of the first half came as
Harper Gillen saw a shot saved on the goal line by the Chatham defense.
It wasn't until the second half of action when either team found a breakthrough when Chatham, perhaps against the run of play, found the breakthrough goal. Izeyah Romo looped a first-time shot up and over
Ethan Ogden in the Comet go in the 60th minute for the 1-0 lead.
But 11-minutes later, Capital leveled the score through
Christian Monzalvo's second goal of the year. Monzalvo slid into a cross from
Cade Wurstner to slam home the shot, tying the game at 1-1.
Carter Musgrove picked up a secondary assist on the play after setting Wurstner through on the left side.
All-in-all, Capital out-shot the Cougars 13-6, but neither team could find another goal.
Ethan Ogden recorded one save in goal and it came at a crucial moment in the final 10 seconds of the game after Chatham found a 1v1 opportunity.
