Women’s Basketball Bows Out of OAC Tournament in Semifinals

BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (20-7, 13-5 OAC) traveled to top-seed No. 7/10 Baldwin Wallace (25-1, 18-0 OAC) for the OAC Women's Basketball Tournament Semifinals on Thursday. Once again, it was another close contest between the Comets and the Yellow Jackets, coming down to the last few possessions. Unfortunately, the Purple and White would be the side that came up short, falling in the end 80-72.

The first half was a tale of two quarters as Cap started the game strong, putting up 26 and holding BW to just 14. Samaree Perkins led the efforts with 15 points, going a perfect 5-of-5 from the field, 2-of-2 from three-point range, and 3-of-3 from the free throw line. Laney Murphy also had eight points in the quarter including two threes.

The tides would then turn in the second quarter despite decent shooting numbers from CU, with Baldwin Wallace working their way back into the game by outscoring Capital 32-18 and taking a 46-44 lead into the half. The 18 for Cap was split evenly between Perkins, Murphy, and Kya Jordan with six each.

The Comets kept it close in the second half, even taking the lead at points, but shooting struggles would ultimately leave the Purple and White a few points behind in the final moments. After some unfortunate empty possessions and being forced to foul, CU would concede the game to BW, 80-72.
