Women’s Basketball Falls at JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (17-6, 11-5 OAC) traveled to face John Carroll (17-7, 11-5 OAC) on Saturday afternoon, ultimately ending in a 65-73 defeat. The Comets started strong and took a six-point lead into halftime, but would falter in the second half, with the Blue Streaks escaping with the win in the fourth quarter.

Capital got off to a good start, taking up to a nine-point advantage in the first quarter after holding John Carroll scoreless for nearly three minutes at the beginning of the game. The Comets would keep a six-point lead heading into the first break at 17-11. The lead would stay that way even after the high-scoring second quarter as the two sides combined for 40 points, evenly split at 20 apiece, making it a 37-31 game at the half.

The second half was where CU started to slip. Plagued by poor shooting, the Purple and White would surrender four points to JCU after being outscored 12-16 in the third quarter. This left the Comets with a slim two-point advantage at the last break. Unfortunately, Capital would lose control of the game in the fourth quarter, giving up 26 to the Blue Streaks and only scoring 16 on the offensive end. As a result, Cap would come up short, 65-73.
