OBERLIN, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team traveled to Oberlin College on Wednesday evening for their final non-conference game of the season. There, the Comets fell victim to an 89th minute winning score by the Yeomen in what turned out to be a 3-2 loss.
Capital will enter the OAC portion of their season with a record of 1-6-1 overall. Oberlin moved to 3-7-1 after the win.
Capital fell behind in the third minute on Michael Dolton's first goal of the game, but the lead would only last until the 29th minute.
The Comets leveled the score at 1-1 as
Christian Monzalvo dispatched his team-leading fourth goal of the year.
Wassim Metatla picked up a loose ball in the middle of the field and drove down the center of the field before setting Monzalvo through to finish the shot.
That goal sparked a boost for the Comets who went in front 2-1 just three minutes later. This time, the Comets earned a corner kick that was taken by
Cade Wurstner. The cross by Wurstner was met by a wide-open
Carter Musgrove who headed it into the top corner of the net. The goal was Musgrove's first of his career, while the assist was Wurstner's third of the season.
The 2-1 lead for Capital carried into the half as the Comets looked comfortable in front.
However, the Yeomen made a halftime adjustment and knotted up the score at 2-2 off Dolton's second goal of the game in the 51st minute.
From there, Capital and Oberlin both looked to be moving toward a draw, but the hosts snatched the result in the 89th minute as Dolton completed his hat trick.
Ethan Ogden started in goal for Capital earning two saves before making way to
Noah Thomas who also recorded two saves.
