Lance Gordon Tabbed as Head Bowling Coach

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Director of Athletics and Recreation Dr. Darrell Bailey has announced a new leader for Capital University Men's and Women's Bowling. Lance Gordon has been selected as Head Coach and will steer the program into their first year of competition in the fall of 2024.

Gordon comes to Capital having a strong coaching resume right here in central Ohio. Prior to his start with the Comets, Gordon has been the the varsity and junior varsity coach at Hilliard Bradley High School as well as a private bowling coach at Holiday Lanes in Whitehall, Ohio.

"We are excited to add Lance as our new Head Men's and Women's Bowling Coach here at Capital University," said Dr. Bailey. "Lance stepped in for us at a crucial point for our bowling program and we are looking forward to beginning the program under his guidance."

"I am very honored to be chosen for this unique and exciting opportunity," said Gordon. "With Capital's new bowling program starting up in the 2024-25 school year, I am thankful that this great university has made a sizable investment in a sport that I am passionate about. I am obviously thrilled to be chosen as the head coach."

"It will be a great challenge to jump in and compete against schools who have had years to build their programs, but it's a journey I look forward to," continued Gordon. "I can't wait to start recruiting bowlers to join me on this journey. I am looking for players who not only win on the lanes, but also perform well in the classroom and show great sportsmanship."

During his time at Hilliard Bradley, Gordon was responsible for instructing the game to beginners who have now become key contributors to the varsity team. During his season as head varsity coach, Gordon helped the team develop into one of the top teams in the area, improving from a ranking of 35th up to 11th in just one season.

As a coach at Holiday Lanes locally, Gordon has coached every level of bowling from ages three all the way up through high school. At the 2024 Central Ohio Tournament of Champions, seven of the 10 individual champions hailed from Holiday Lanes – many of whom were coached by Gordon.  He also assisted the bowling alley with league accounting, tournament registration, and bookkeeping along with his coaching responsibilities.

As a bowling coach, Gordon recently received his certification as a USBC Bronze Level Coach just last August. Prior to his Bronze Level certificate, Gordon held a USBC Level One certification that was achieved in 2019.

Aside from his experience in coaching bowling, Lance is a licensed real estate agent and serves as a Realtor and Executive Vice President of Sales with Plum Tree Realty. Gordon earned his business administration degree in 2008 from Franklin University in Columbus, Ohio.
