Tennis Teams Defeated at JCU

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital University tennis teams traveled north to the Cleveland-area on Saturday for their third conference matches of the spring, taking on John Carroll. Both Comets teams would succumb 9-0 to the Blue Streaks.

WOMEN (CAP 0-9 JCU)
Cap's women started off with some close doubles sets but would end up dropping all three matches. Anna Fletcher and Nicole Flock took their doubles contest to a tiebreak, ultimately falling 8-7 (8-6 tiebreak). Annika Hansen and Rachel Smith played to an 8-5 finish. Amy Wright-Lovell and Jenny Rollins lost their match 8-0.

The Purple and White would suffer the same fate in the singles matches, falling in all six. Fletcher lost her match 6-1, 6-0, followed by Flock and Hansen, both 6-0, 6-2. Next it was Rachel Smith finishing 6-4, 6-0, then Wright-Lovell 6-2, 6-2, and finally Rollins 6-0, 6-0.

MEN (CAP 0-9 JCU)
Capital's men's team started the day in much the same way as the women's team, with three straight losses in doubles. Spencer Surles and Jackson Havel were outscored 8-2 while Nicholas Wines and Alex Rowley were downed 8-1. JCU won the third match by default.

The Comets could not muster up a point in singles either, dropping all six matches. Surles suffered a 6-1, 6-2 loss while Havel and Rowley both lost on scores of 6-0, 6-1. Wines wound up winning four games but would not come away with a winning set, 6-1, 6-3. Sam Williams would be shutout 6-0, 6-0. JCU won the sixth match by default.

UP NEXT
