Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Runs Away From Marietta in Wednesday Win

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team shook off a pesky Marietta College team midway through the second quarter and ran away from the Pioneers en route to a 22-8 win at the end of the game.

The Comets improved to 10-4 on the year and 4-1 in the OAC with the win, while Marietta slipped to 6-8 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

The hosts got ahead twice early, leading both at 1-0 and 2-1 through the first seven minutes of the game, but back-to-back goals from Andi Henry put the Comets in front 3-2 at the 3:08 mark of the first quarter. Before the end of the first stanza, Marietta even leveled the score at 3-3 through the first 15 minutes.

Starting the second quarter, Capital rattled off four goals to create some breathing room from the hosts. Those goals from the Comets came from Grace Osborn, Ava Vendetti and another pair from Henry. Despite the flurry of goals from Cap, Marietta responded with a run of three straight goals of their own to bring the score to 7-6, testing the Comets once again.

Finally ready to distance themselves in the scoring column, Capital's offense scored 11 straight goals through the final 4:55 of the second quarter and the entirety of the third quarter. The run was spurred on by seven goals from Osborn, two from Vendetti, one from Henry and one from Brenna Todd. While the offense got the job done, the defense stayed steady and kept the Pioneers scoreless for the duration of that 11 goal run.

A goal from Marietta's Jordan Jeffried at the 13:14 mark of the fourth quarter made the score 18-7, but proved to simply be consolation as her tally was met by two more Comet goals from Henry and Heather Stoner

The Pioneers added a final goal at the 5:45 mark of the fourth, but Osborn finished the game off with two more goals to bring the final score to 22-8 in the Comets' favor.

Grace Osborn finished the game with 11 goals and one assist for 12 points. She added five draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers in the game as well.
