Women’s Hoops Rallies to Down JCU to Close Out Regular Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team rallied from a troublesome first quarter to blow past the visiting John Carroll Blue Streaks and close out their season with a 76-66 win.

The Comets, with some help elsewhere in the conference, will now enter the OAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed and will host a first round game on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. Capital wrapped up the regular season with a record of 18-7 and a 13-5 mark in the OAC. JCU on the other hand finished their regular season 13-12 overall and 8-10 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital got behind in a 6-0 hole that caused some early trouble for the team as JCU finished the first frame on the wrong end of an 18-9 scoreline. The second quarter for Capital was much more favorable as the Comets stormed back, eventually taking a lead at 23-21 on a made 3-pointer from Demi Brewer. Despite the run from Cap, JCU closed the half on a bit of a run and carried a 33-29 lead into the locker room.

After halftime, the Blue Streaks carried the same momentum with them and opened the game up to eight points at 42-34. A quick six points from Capital brought it within two and allowed the Comets to establish their control on the game. Of the final five plus minutes of the frame, Cap ended with a 54-48 lead at the final quarter break.

Through the fourth quarter, Capital kept their foot on the gas and held off a comeback attempt from the Blue Streaks, eventually closing the game out ahead 76-66.
