Women’s Basketball Extends Streak to Six

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (10-4, 5-2 OAC) traveled to Heidelberg (3-11, 0-7 OAC) on Wednesday night, bringing home their sixth-straight win, 78-65. This is now the Comets' longest winning streak since the 2018-19 season when they started the season 6-0. It also marks the first time since that '18-19 season when both the men's and women's teams have had streaks of six wins or better, with the men starting this season 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital struggled to shoot the ball in the first few minutes, finding themselves in a 13-4 hole early on. However, the Comets bounced back to finish the first quarter on a 19-4 run. Bri O'Connor was the catalyst, scoring seven points as the Comets took a 25-19 lead prior to the end of the period.

The shooting struggles recurred for CU in the second quarter as Cap could only put in 3-of-18 field goals. This allowed Heidelberg the opportunity for a 15-3 run to take the lead over again, ending up 36-32 at halftime.

Capital had a much-improved performance in the third quarter, shooting an even 50% at 9-of-18. On the other end, the Comets were able to shut down the Student Prince offense for a solid five minutes, mounting a 16-0 run in the process and pulling back ahead. The Purple and White would take a 13-point lead into the final break, up 58-45.

The teams would go head-to-head for 20 points each in the fourth quarter. Fortunately for CU, the damage had already been done and they would take that 13-point lead to the finish with a 78-65 final score.
