WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Thursday morning, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced their postseason awards for the 2022-23 women's basketball season. Featured on the list for Capital University were sophomore
Bri O'Connor and freshman
Samaree Perkins.
O'Connor was selected to the first team, while Perkins was named honorable mention and the Freshman of the Year. For both O'Connor and Perkins, these awards are their first career postseason accolades. Perkins is Capital's second consecutive Freshman of the Year as
Laney Murphy earned the distinction last year.
This season, both O'Connor and Perkins helped the Comets turnaround the program record with a eight-win improvement from a season ago. As a unit Capital finished 13-12 overall and 7-11 in the OAC.
O'Connor not only led her team, but led the entire OAC in scoring this season and was near the top in many other categories. She finished the season with 17.9 points per game, 5.3 rebounds per contest, 3.1 assists per game, and 2.7 steals per game. Only twice all season did O'Connor fail to score in double-digits and her season scoring efforts were highlighted by a 24-point output at Mount Union.
Perkins had quite the debut season on both ends of the floor as she scored 10.6 points per game and pulled in 7.1 rebounds per contest. In addition, she helped her cause with 31 assists, 21 steals and eight blocks. Her 7.1 boards per game sat her fourth best in the conference and she was the leading freshman in the conference in points per game.
