Women’s Hoops Gets Back on Track With Win Over Heidelberg

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team got back to winning ways with a 53-39 win over Heidelberg University on Wednesday night. The Comets recovered from a slow first quarter to win comfortably at the final buzzer.

The result moves Capital to 13-9 overall and 7-8 in the OAC, while Heidelberg drops to 2-19 and 0-14 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter swung in the favor of Heidelberg 10-7 as the Comets managed to convert just two of their shots and half of their free throws.

Despite the missed opportunities in the first, Capital came out better off in the second quarter, knocking down seven shots to out-score the Berg 18-12 to carry a 25-22 lead into the locker room. The Comets got big 3-pointers from Laney Murphy and Maddi Weiland to help their efforts in the frame. Samaree Perkins polished off the frame with two important jumpers in the final minute.

In the third, Capital again opened up the game, out-scoring Heidelberg by nine. Rani Thigpen stepped up in the quarter, contributing a layup, a steal and two rebounds to help out the effort.

The fourth quarter proved to be cruise control for the Comets as they eased into the eventual 14-point win. The trio of Gabby Ledbetter, Kaylee Cyphers and Katie Burke helped to close out the game in the final minutes to give Cap their first win in over two weeks.
