MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team was on the road for the final time in the 2022-23 regular season on Wednesday night, playing visitor to Marietta College. The Pioneers defended their home floor with a flourish, emerging with a 60-35 win.
The Comets slip back to 13-11 overall and 7-10 in the OAC. Marietta improves to 18-6 and 13-4 in conference play.
Early on, the Comets stayed step-for-step with the Pioneers as
Bri O'Connor's early eight points had the game tied 8-8. Then two straight successful possessions by Marietta created some separation that would remain for the final 30+ minutes as the hosts would pull away.
THE NUMBERS
Bri O'Connor led all scorers with 19 points, thanks to six made buckets and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe. She added six boards, four steals and two assists in the game.
The supporting cast found it difficult to score as seven players combined for the remaining 16 points.

Defensively, Brewer had three steals and
Maddi Weiland swatted two shots. Weiland now has 47 blocks on the year, just four off the single-season record of 51 set in the 1994-95 season by Carmen Ellis.
