BEREA, Ohio – A fourth straight 20-point effort from
Bri O'Connor was not enough to push the Capital University women's basketball team over the hump on the road at the No. 7 ranked Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets. O'Connor nearly scored half the Comets' points in the eventual 65-50 loss.
The loss pegs Capital back to 10-5 overall and an even 4-4 in the OAC. BW on the other hand improves to 14-1 overall and 7-1 in the OAC.
Despite O'Connor's continued form, the Yellow Jackets – who were coming off their first loss of the season at No. 18 Ohio Northern earlier this week – were looking to get back to their winning ways against CU and did just that.
Both teams came out of the gates slow as the score sat at just 9-6 after the first quarter. The two teams combined for just seven field goals in the first 10 minutes of play.
After the slow start, the second quarter saw a slight pick-me-up in offense, but ended with just nine made field goals between the sides. This relatively tame first half led to a 26-18 halftime score that favored Baldwin Wallace.
Out of the intermission, the Yellow Jackets did what they do best and utilized a balanced offense and strong defense to blow the game open and take a 20 point lead into the fourth.
In that fourth quarter, the Comets immediately started chipping into the BW lead, but after a five-point cut into the advantage, the Yellow Jackets hung in there for what would eventually end in a 15-point win.
