COLUMBUS, Ohio – Entering the fourth quarter, the Capital University football team trailed Wilmington College, 27-14. With 1:32 left in the fourth quarter, the Comets led 31-27, aiming to lock up their first win of the season in fascinating fashion. Unfortunately for the Comets, a 34-yard pass from Adam Dixon to Itika Wynn Jr. with 26 seconds remaining spoiled those hopes of a Capital victory on Homecoming.
Capital saw graduate student
Trevor Harrison-Rawn take the ball under center this afternoon, making his season-starting debut. Harrison-Rawn powered the Comets into the endzone all four times today, rushing for two scores and tossing two more to
EJ Ormond and
Aralius Walters Jr. Two of his scores came at crucial moments – in the fourth quarter with his team trailing by two touchdowns. First with 13:03 remaining, Trevor connected on a 24-yard pass to Walters Jr., bringing the score to 27-21. The second came just five minutes later as Harrison-Rawn escaped a would-be sack and rumbled his way for 22-yards and into the endzone, tying the game.
Tyler Terrell's PAT then put the Comets ahead 28-27 with just over eight minutes left to play.
With the late lead, Capital tacked on three more points to their lead with a 33-yard field goal from Terrell with 1:32 remaining. The kick forced Wilmington – who had no timeouts – to find the endzone with a little over a minute and a half remaining. Unfortunately for the Comets, the Quakers executed a drive to perfection by throwing to the sideline and picking up yards while stopping the clock on each play. Ultimately, the drive got to the 34-yard line where Adam Dixon threw to Itika Wynn Jr. in the endzone. There, Wynn Jr. made a great one-handed catch with pressure and spoiled those Capital joys.
The first Comets' touchdown came on a two-yard scamper by Harrison-Rawn in the first quarter and then in the third quarter as Harrison-Rawn connected with
EJ Ormond for his first career college receiving touchdown. The pass was a nice 22-yard toss to the corner where Ormond out-leaped his defender to make a great play on the ball.
