NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Capital University cross country teams got their 2022 season underway on Thursday evening on a 5K course put together by Muskingum University. The course featured a rolling hills layout on Moorehead Farms.
MEN
On the men's side,
Donovan Slattery paced the squad with a 12th place finish, running a time of 16:54 over the 5K course. His time was good to place him fifth all-time in Capital history on a 5K cross country course.
The next finisher for the Comets was freshman Jackson Roes who placed 37th in his first collegiate race. His time of 19:01.4 was good enough to put him 20th all-time in program history.
Fellow debutant
Zach Glotzbecker was not far behind Roes as he placed 41st with a time of 19:14.2.
A quartet of Comets fell in behind Glotzbecker to round out the performances. Zach Brown placed 50th overall with a time of 19:50.6. Bobby Cole placed 54th with a time of 20:31.3. Max Kramer marked his first race for Capital with a 55th place finish in a time of 20:36.3. Jason McColl rounded out the Capital lineup with a 59th place finish and a time of 21:00.7.
As a team, Capital placed fourth in the five-team event. The competitive field of five OAC men's teams featured the No. 13 and No. 32 nationally ranked teams according to the USTFCCCA in the form of Otterbein and Mount Union. The Cardinals won the event as they swept the top seven places. Mount finished second, followed by Muskingum, Capital, and Marietta.
WOMEN
The Capital women only ran four runners in the form of Eva Bernhardt,
Elizabeth Mak, Allison Costanzo, and Kylynn Barr.
Bernhardt led the way with a 25th place finish, running a time of 23:23.3. Mak was not far behind, finishing 28th with a time of 23:30.0.
Rounding out the placements for Cap were back-to-back finishers in Costanzo and Barr. Costanzo finished 34th with a time of 26:28.4, while Barr was 35th in 26:36.5.
The four runners were not enough to make up a team score to compete with the scoring teams of Mount Union, Muskingum, Otterbein, and Marietta.

Capital's next competition will be at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday, September 16th. The meet will be hosted by Cedarville University.
