Men’s Tennis Downed by ONU

LIMA, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team traveled to Ohio Northern University on Saturday morning, only to fall by a score of 9-0 to the Polar Bears.

"Today was a great learning experience for us against a veteran team at ONU," said head coach Cody Hurley. "I was really proud of how we represented ourselves with resilience and class in a hostile environment."

The top two match-ups were battled very closely, with both Leonardo Abreu and Alex Stout making life difficult for two of the top players in the OAC in Andrew Cochran and Vinh Thai. At first singles, Abreu fell by scored of 6-4 and 6-2. Stout lost at second singles by scores of 6-1, 6-3.

"Had a few points gone their way, Leonardo and Alex very well could've took those matches in their favor," said Hurley.

Abreu and Stout also teamed up at doubles to fall to Thai and Matt Garcia by a score of 8-2.

Elsewhere, Spencer Surles and Colin Welch fell at second doubles by a score of 8-1. Welch lost his third singles match in straight 6-0 sets, while Surles fell 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles.

In third doubles, Jesse Stevens and Aaron Askew fell 8-2 to ONU's Cochran and Isaac Spar. Both Stevens and Askew lost in consecutive 6-0 set decisions in their respective singles matches.

"Regardless of the results, this performance speaks volumes about what the future holds for our lineup. These results are very promising," continued Hurley.
