Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Polishes Off Perfect 17-0 Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Coming into the season, the Capital University women's lacrosse team had won 83 games in their first eight seasons of competition. After trouncing Heidelberg by a final score of 20-3, the Comets finished off their season with an unblemished 17-0 record, and secured the 100th win in the history of the program. All 100 wins in the program's tenure have come under the direction of head coach Stacey Florence.

Not only did tonight's win secure the perfect season, but it also clinched the outright OAC Regular Season Championship – the first in program history. The regular season trophy is also the first for Capital since the men's lacrosse team won the title in 2019. With the regular season locked up, Capital owns the No. 1 seed throughout the OAC Tournament and will host in each game they play. THeir first contest will be the tournament semifinals on Wednesday, May 4th at 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.

Leading the lines tonight was Luci Kanowsky who scored seven times and handed out two assists for a total of nine points. In addition to her scoring, she caused two turnovers and picked up five ground balls. Also contributing heavily on the offensive front were Grace Osborn (3 goals, 4 assists), Julia Foresi (2 goals, 2 assists), Brooke Delara (1 goal, 2 assists) and Avery Hart (2 goals, 1 assist).

Defensively, Julia Foresi had a breakout game, causing four turnovers and picking up five ground balls. Grace Osborn was once again active in her all-around performance with three caused turnovers, eight ground balls, and nine draw controls. Avery Hart also had four ground balls.

Bee Kuehn made a modest three saves in the Capital goal in the process of holding her opponents to single-digit scoring for the 11th time this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
With their eyes set on wrapping up the OAC Championship, the Comets (17-0, 8-0 OAC) exploded for 10 goals in the first quarter and put the game to bed early.

Grace Osborn, who entered the game sitting on 99 goals, wasted just 24 seconds before scoring her 100th goal of the year – the first to do so in any of the NCAA's three divisions in 2022.

From there, Capital was on their way as Kanowsky x4, Foresi, Hart x2, Abigail Midnight, and Brooke Delara rattled off goals before the end of the period.

In the second quarter, Osborn bagged two more in quick succession to keep the momentum rolling. A goal from Heidelberg's Gianna Ricci halted the Capital shutout, but ultimately did little to harm the result.

Goals from Foresi and Audrey Kilgallon would lead to a halftime score of 14-1 in favor of the Comets.

The second half was much subdued in the scoring column as the Comets just outscored Heidelberg by a 6-2 margin over the two quarters. Kanowsky scored three more, while Katie Page netted twice and Skyla Caito got in on the action as well.

UP NEXT
Capital will await confirmation of their next opponent in the coming days as they will await a winner from Saturday's quarter final match-ups. Regardless of the opponent, the time and location is set for Wednesday, May 4th at 7 p.m. at Bernlohr Stadium.
