COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team picked up a much needed OAC win on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping past Marietta College by a final score of 9-0.
"I'm really happy with today's result," said head coach
Cody Hurley. "There were a few hiccups in doubles, but we were really locked in for our singles matches."
The Comets got solid doubles wins from all three pairings consisting of
Leonardo Abreu and
Colin Welch,
Alex Stout and
Spencer Surles, and
Aaron Askew and
Jesse Stevens. Abreu and Welch took home first doubles 8-4, while the other duos won 8-2.
In consecutive order from first to sixth singles, Capital won all six match-ups in two sets – Abreu won 6-2, 6-0; Stout won 6-4, 6-0; Surles won 6-1, 6-0; Welch won 6-4, 6-2; Stevens won 6-0, 6-0; and Askew won 6-0, 6-0.

Capital will play host to Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday, April 30th at 1 p.m. The match will take place at Wolfe Park, and will also serve as senior day for the Capital men. Right now, Capital and BW are tied for fourth in the OAC, and the winner of this match will host the loser in the OAC Tournament first round on either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
