COLUMBUS, Ohio – Playing in their first true home match since October 10, 2021, the Capital University men's tennis team saw freshman
Spencer Surles win both his singles and doubles matches, but ultimately the team fell 6-3 to visiting Anderson University.
The Comets now carry an overall record of 6-12 as they have played a heavy-duty schedule of matches with a youthful roster.
"Today was a solid performance from our guys," said head coach
Cody Hurley. "Credit to Anderson – they are a great team and have a ton of experience on their roster. Despite the result, I'm really proud of our intensity and the positive atmosphere our team created."
In doubles action, Anderson emerged with two of the three wins, taking #1 and #3 doubles.
Spencer Surles and
Colin Welch paired up at second doubles and knocked off the Ravens' Peter Hallam and Seth Nation via a score of 8-6.
In singles play,
Leonardo Abreu won a lengthy bout over Anderson's Tucker Bradley. The pair split the first two sets, both with 6-3 scores. In the tiebreaking set, Abreu emerged victorious 10-6.
Surles made it two-for-two in his third singles match, as he defeated Seth Nation in consecutive sets, 7-5 and 6-3.

Jesse Stevens (2-6, 2-6), and
Aaron Askew (0-6, 1-6) were upended in their respective head-to-head matches.
