Men’s Tennis Edged by Roanoke

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Capital University men's tennis team played a close match with Roanoke College on Wednesday, ultimately falling to the Maroons, 5-4. The Purple and White now stand at 3-6 for the campaign.

The Comets were in the lead 2-1 after the conclusion of the doubles matches. However, the Maroons knotted up the score 3-3 after defeating Alex Stout and Jesse Stevens. Aaron Askew would win his match to give Cap their final point of the day, but this was no match for the two more that Roanoke added to make the final score 5-4.

In doubles action, the pairings of Leonardo Abreu and Alex Stout as well as Spencer Surles and Colin Welch won their matches. Abreu and Stout defeated the Maroon combo by a score of 8-4. And the Surles-Welch partnership gained their point in a 8-6 decision. Aaron Askew and Jesse Stevens dropped their match 8-3.

During the second part of action, in singles play, Askew and Abreu saw victory in their respective matches. Abreu worked his way to 6-3 victories in two sets. Askew got his decision in the third set, winning the set 10 points to eight.
