Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Remains Undefeated

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Despite some slightly nervy moments, the Capital University women's lacrosse team comfortably brushed aside Transylvania University by a final score of 21-10 on Wednesday evening.

The win did enough to send Capital to 7-0 to start the season – their best start to a campaign since a 7-0 record through seven games during the 2018 season.

On the offensive side of the ball, Capital once again got huge statistical nights from the three-headed monster of Luci Kanowsky, Brooke Delara, and Grace Osborn. The trio combined for 17 goals and all seven assists.

Defensively, Capital caused an immense 20 turnovers, controlled 19 draws, and picked up 22 ground balls. Leading the way in the CT category were Osborn with six and Molly Searles with four. At the draw, Katie Page collected a team-best seven draw controls. In the ground ball game, Searles and Delara led the team with five pick-ups each.

In goal, Bee Kuehn earned her seventh win of the season, making eight saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Cap came out firing on all cylinders as they worked their way out to a 3-0 lead after just six minutes. Each Osborn, Delara, and Kanowsky scored in the process. A Transy goal just over a minute late got the Pioneers (2-5) back into the game, but Osborn scored a woman-down goal just a few minutes later to give Cap another cushion heading to the first intermission.

In the second quarter, after Transy netted one with 20 seconds left in the first, Capital mashed the gas again, scoring the first three goals of the quarter and two more before the half. Osborn and Kanowsky accounted for three goals, while Julia Foresi and Katie Page got in on the act just before the halftime pause.

In the third quarter, the Pioneers closed to within three goals at 9-6, but six consecutive goals by the Comets removed all doubt from the scoreboard. In addition to the usual subject scoring goals, Dylan Smith netted one time in the third.

The fourth quarter was more evenly contested, but Cap emerged victorious with the cherry on top being put on by Audrey Kilgallon. The freshman scored with just 1:40 left in the game off a feed from Delara. Kilgallon had been inserted into the game earlier as she was called on to take the opening draws. With her in the circle, Capital won the battle 11-9 over the Pioneers in the second half.

THE OPPONENT
Four Transy players scored twice each – Abbey Peterson, Diana Bruder, Lindy Walker, and Charlotte Green. Peterson complimented her night with three assists. Ysa Leon had a team-best seven draw controls, while Madie Denman had a team-high five ground balls.

UP NEXT
Capital will remain home for their next game on Saturday, March 19th. They will host Oberlin College for a 1 p.m. game at Bernlohr Stadium. The game will take place just before the Capital men host Wittenberg for a 4 p.m. start time.
