Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Continues Dominant Start; Cruises Past W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. – In three games this season, freshman Grace Osborn has scored 19 goals and dished out four assists, for an outstanding 23 points. Meanwhile, graduate student Brooke Delara has scored 12 times and passed out 13 assists for 25 points.

Needless to say, the Capital University women's lacrosse team has started the season at a commanding pace. As a team, the Comets improved to 3-0 on the season with a 20-5 win over Washington and Jefferson College this afternoon.

Leading the lines for the team were Osborn and Delara. Osborn scored seven goals and handed out two assists, while Delara netted a hat-trick and passed out eight assists in the game. Additionally, Luci Kanowsky scored four goals and Katie Page recorded her first multi-goal game wearing the Purple and White.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Much like their midweek game vs. Centre, the Comets found themselves level at 2-2 early on. Level on the scoreboard, Capital was ready to stake their claim on the result, going on a 7-0 run that included a 3-0 finish to the first quarter. As a team, Capital put up 10 goals in the second quarter, furthering their momentum in the game.

At the half, Capital carried a 15-5 lead. In the flurry of offense, the typical Osborn, Delara, and Kanowsky were busy on the scoresheet, but Abigail Midnight and Dylan Smith each scored their only goals of the game as well.

In the second half, Capital released their foot off the gas, but still out-scored W&J (0-1) 5-0 over the third and fourth quarters. In the fourth quarter, Audrey Kilgallon and Julia Foresi each scored. The goal by Kilgallon was the first of her collegiate career, while Foresi scored for the second straight game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
With her eight assists today, Brooke Delara now sits at 125 career helpers – just eight off the career mark, a record held by Regan Hanood. Her 11 points this afternoon puts her in a tie for fourth most in a single-game.

Grace Osborn's seven-goal game puts her in a lengthy tie for the second most goals in a game. Additionally, her nine points adds her to a tie for 10th most all-time.

On the defensive side of the game, Capital had more ground balls, caused turnovers, and draw controls than the Presidents. Osborn and Hanna Searles tied for a team-high five ground balls, while Molly Searles caused the most turnovers with three. Osborn also controlled a game-best eight draws.

THE OPPONENT
Sarah Labovitz led the team with three goals. She also had three ground balls and three draw controls.

UP NEXT
Capital will next play at Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday, March 5th. The team will then remain on the road as they visit the Chicago area for spring break. They will also play Aurora on their trip on March 8th.
